Immersive experiences are built around moments where you lose yourself—in a story, a musical piece, or a moment of reflection. Technology is a powerful tool to drive that immersion, but it should not draw too much attention to itself. How it was made should not enter your mind until later.
I like my work to embed technological innovation in textured and traditional objects. In 2016, I collaborated with engineers at Drexel University to create a new instrument called Drumhenge—a networked array of drums, which were turned into synthesizers using electromagnets. Along side engineer Jeff Gregorio, we were named ‘Makers of the Year’ by Technical.ly Philly. In 2018, I worked with Columbia University and director Lance Weiler to develop a generative, AI driven experience called Frankenstein AI, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2019, I collaborated with Lance again on Where There’s Smoke, a non-linear, immersive documentary, that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
